iWorka ("we", "our", "us") operates the iWorka mobile application and web portal at iworka.co.za. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
When you register for an iWorka account we collect:
- Identity information: Full name, email address, phone number, home address, next-of-kin details.
- Verification documents: South African ID number (or passport/asylum permit number), ID photo, and selfie for identity verification.
- Profile photo: Optional profile image you upload.
- Usage data: Bookings you create, reviews you leave, subscription status, and chat messages exchanged through the in-app messenger.
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for crash reporting and performance monitoring (via Sentry).
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To display your worker profile to potential customers (if you register as a worker).
- To process and manage bookings between customers and workers.
- To facilitate in-app communication between booking parties.
- To process payments through our payment partner PayFast.
- To send transactional emails (booking confirmations, payment receipts).
- To monitor app performance and fix crashes.
- To prevent fraud and ensure platform safety.
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- PayFast: Payment details for processing transactions (governed by PayFast's Privacy Policy).
- Sentry: Anonymous crash reports and performance data for app stability.
- Other users: Your public profile (name, skill, area, rating) is visible to other iWorka users. Contact details are only shared after a booking is confirmed or when unlocked via subscription.
- Law enforcement: If required by South African law or court order.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers hosted in a data centre environment. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. Passwords are stored as salted SHA-256 hashes and are never stored in plain text. Chat messages are filtered to prevent sharing of personal contact information outside the platform.
5. Your Rights (POPIA)
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Object to processing of your personal information.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., financial records for tax purposes).
7. Children's Privacy
iWorka is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
